At last, we can share this big news: Alistair MacLeod’s No Great Mischief will be Bookmarked in Cape Breton. We’re very pleased, and we think you will be too. This novel is one of the most frequent requests we hear at Project Bookmark Canada, and the affection for Alistair MacLeod and his fiction come from all over Canada, and beyond.
Every successful Bookmark is a collaboration, and this one has a particularly committed and generous group behind it already, including Alistair MacLeod’s family, Destination Cape Breton, the Government of Nova Scotia and the Cabot Trail Writers’ Festival—to mention only a few.
We at Project Bookmark Canada are very glad to share the announcement of this Bookmark with the Cabot Trail Writers’ Festival, and to thank the organizers there for their enthusiastic partnership as we worked toward the necessary permissions to make the Bookmark possible. We hope to unveil the Bookmark during a future edition of the festival.
Tonight, the festival pays tribute to the work of Alistair MacLeod. It’s a celebration the author himself was to have attended. We all wish he could be there to witness again the love for his work on the island of Cape Breton—but members of his family will be in attendance.
Thanks to all of you who suggested marking Alistair MacLeod’s legacy with a Bookmark for No Great Mischief. We agree: it’s a great idea. We hope you will continue to spread the word and express your support as we raise the funds for this popular installation, and connect the Project Bookmark Canada network to yet another great Canadian literary setting. You can contribute to the campaign for the No Great Mischief Bookmark here, or by contacting the Project Bookmark Canada office.
See you soon, Cape Breton.
