Ready to Launch

Posted in

After ten years of dreaming and planning, Project Bookmark Canada is ready to launch. On April 23rd at 11 a.m., Toronto Mayor David Miller and author Michael Ondaatje will unveil our first Bookmark, a passage from Michael Ondaatje's legendary Toronto novel In the Skin of a Lion, at the Bloor Street Viaduct.

Thank you to all the people who have advised, encouraged and cajoled me and this project along. You will read their names in the "Our Organization" section of this site. Thank you also to Sam Marinucci (our accountant), Derek Fryer (our designer), and Lisa Sakulensky (our photographer on launch day) who have been working purely on faith and goodwill up till now.

This first Bookmark would not have been possible without the efforts of Lawrence Hill, who stepped in to fill a funding void by giving presentations for schools and groups who made a donation to Bookmark. You will see their names in the donors section. Larry also became Project Bookmark Canada's first official member. And he has graciously listened to the ups and downs of this idea for as long as he has known me. Thank you, Larry.

Why don't you join these first supporters and make more Bookmarks possible? You can make a charitable donation by clicking on the Donate Now button to the left of your screen. You can also become a member of our organization. More information is available on the "Donations and Sponsorship" page. In the meantime, consider joining us on April 23rd. We'll be with the Mayor and Michael Ondaatje at the Northeast corner of the Viaduct at 11 a.m.
