Devyani Saltzman was born into a household of filmmakers but she became a writer, instead. She is the author of a highly acclaimed memoir documenting her relationship with her mother Deepa Mehta as she struggled to make the film Water. Shooting Water: A Mother-Daughter Journey and the Making of a Film has since been published internationally.
With a degree in Human Sciences from Oxford University, Devyani has written articles for The Globe and Mail, Marie Claire, The Walrus and Tehelka, an Indian weekly known for arts and investigative journalism. Devyani is Curator of Literary Programming for Luminato, Toronto's Festival of Arts and Creativity. She is currently working on her first novel.
